Speaking at an anti-DOGE rally, 85 year old congressman Steny Hoyer references a Reagan appointee who served in his first term circa 1980s (I had to look this up). "You remember the name Don Devine? That was patty cake compared to Russell Vought."

Thank goodness there is a little time between now and the next congressional election because this is not it for electoral politics today. A "Thanks for you service" and a hand off the stage at this point.
In 2023, Devine co-authored the chapter on governmental personnel agencies in the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 book, Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise
This is another corrupt piece of shit that needs to go. I’ll never forget when he was caught on a hot Mike blatantly trying to bully a primary challenger in Colorado out of his race. His continued presence makes me embarrassed for the state of Maryland. Do better Maryland.
Someone needs to make it clear to these dinosaurs that very few people recognize their names right now and none of us will remember them when they are gone. They are not characters in history. Fuck, they aren't even Alexander Hamiltons.
Embarrassing, perhaps now WE will pay attention to elections. No more auto pilot elections, the dinosaurs gotta go. We're here through years of inattention while enjoying the perks of public office including stock trading on info only electeds can access.
The "we're not them" war cry is bullshit.
We’ve got a decent stable of younger congressional progressives who are great messengers and instead we’re counting on Andy Griffin types to ring the alarm bell 😣
The job of a democratic senator is to surrender to the will of their corporate overlords. The older they are the better they are at their role of being completely useless.
His age aside, who wants a representative with so little political acumen that he believes he can make this reference during a speech and have it resonate?
You seem to be on a theme of criticizing the Dems for being too old. You have a point to an extent. But The age thing isn't unique to Dems, it's widespread across both parties. By attacking sitting Dems you risk winning the battle and losing the war.
They should have the decency to mentor replacements and step down.
It's the same problem as in the private sector, companies refuse to hire brand-new junior employees and then train them on crucial tasks. Then later down the line one person retires and the whole company goes bankrupt.
Really? Because in my experience it’s been the complete opposite. Companies seem to love getting rid of all the experienced workers and hiring college grads because they can pay them so much less. 🤔
No. Not good enough. Democrats have screwed this up for decades. It's guys like him who have been in power are beholden to the donors have played patty cake with the GOP for 40 years. Enough. He doesn't get any credit for saying words now that it's too late.
If you were paying attention to politics when he was appointed and would understand this reference- let's say you were eighteen at the time- a leaf blower might help blow out all 62 candles this year.
They are just not capable of meeting the moment and we really need to work hard organizing to assure they aren't replaced with Jeffries clones, because that's who they (and the donor class) see as the future of the party.
Don’t flip your lid. Steny was cooking with gas. While Dems got the royal shaft, we got it made in the shade with these nifty gals and fellas on our side!
He's my rep, he's been in office longer than I've been alive. We are trying to get rid of him. He represents one of the blackest counties in the country, to have him in office still is an embarrassment.
On one hand its good to know about past like bad actors because there is always some shit pickler that will come along and do the same thing and one up them.
But that said no. No one remembers. 99% of the crowd doesn't have that frame of reference. Even other 85 years olds.

Those who refuse to learn from history, etc.
GOP has always been fighting against the Federal Gov! Despite their voters being more dependent on “federal handouts”.
I turn 40 next year.
Who does Hoyer believe he is speaking to? Does he know what year it is?
85 year old Dems: You know, this reminds me of one of Aesop’s fables……
“Nobody cancelled Slappy White for being a stan of Milton Berle in drag…”
Ok grandpa your hearts in the right place but jfc
The "we're not them" war cry is bullshit.
But this is the worst possible way to put it. And it makes him look ineffective for 40 years since Devine is apparently winning.
And I cannot stress this enough.
Are. So. Goddamn. Cooked.
We need this awareness rn
More than ever
More old men in giant coats! Only they can protect us from Elon!
