st. louis has been ruled by business interests for like, its entire existence, which has created the fucked up city we have now, but yeah, we need a pro-business mayor

Imo the most probusiness thing a mayor could do here is fix city hall. Permits, design reviews, incentives all take too long and receive unbalanced scrutiny, all while plenty of other city services fail to function normally. Genuinely think we just need to sort out the basics and the rest will come
very much feels like everyone has accepted that the state (and federal gov to an extent) will have its way with STL, and a lot of liberals in this city would rather have local politicians who appease conservatives, than local politicians who want to legally fight back against state takeover.
Yeah I don’t feel optimistic that the city will be able to build the public transit, public education, or affordable housing that would actually change the demographic trends
the job of being mayor of a rust belt city sucks ass - everyone yells at you about everything, and the city's fortunes are tied to stuff way beyond your pay grade - still, you should be able to just run on robust public goods - the stakes are so low - just say some radical shit
