Yep. I don’t buy the “fantasy life” for Mulder in this episode at all. I really liked the previous two episodes. Amor Fati has some great moments but it is pretentious nonsense. The Mulder as Jesus silliness is simply too much.
I went back to the episode reviews I wrote in the 90s, to see what I thought of the “I am your father” reveal at the time. My 18 year old self was pretty non-plussed by it. I thought it was just another lie by a master manipulator.
But I always wanted things to be ambiguous on the show, because that was what drew me to it. I’m kind of sad we got definite proof of their father-son relationship in Season 9.
