I've posted this before, but I've had gardens all my life. Even pots of tomatoes on a tiny apt deck for a year or two. Enem a small yard can yield food. If you're not up for starting seeds inside early (I don't usually) you can just do seeds for the season. Peas, grn beans, squash, lettuce, carrots.

Get online. I buy tomato, eggplant and sweet(green) pepper plants usually. But everything else I mentioned I grow in the suburbs of Chicago. Plenty to freeze and share.
It gets you outside. Focused on life & growth and away for a while from political madness.
And it's cheap. Fresh. Yours. Exercise. Distraction. A sense of pride
