It took till the last paragraph of that article to get to the real problem: the Liberals sat there, stone-faced and silent, and watched as the right buried them in lies, propaganda and character assassination, without so much as lifting a single finger to defend themselves.
The most telling part of the article is at the beginning. If the Libs had instituted electoral reform when they had a mandate to we wouldn't be in this position now. We would have better democracy but the Liberals wouldn't have had a system that would advantage them so they wouldn't do it.
Say it as many times as you want but it won't make it true.
The Committee recommends that:
The Government hold a referendum, in which the current system is on the ballot;
That the referendum propose a proportional electoral system that achieves a Gallagher Index score of 5 or less; and
1/2
“It matters that it isn’t criticisms of policy failures or reform proposals that have caused PMJT’s downfall but a coordinated campaign of misinfo & personal attacks from the right. This campaign, building in strength since PP took over the CPC, has dominated media content & shifted public opinion”

It's business as usual.
Political malpractice.
Everybody wanted something different.
Had they forced it through, the same people crying about it now would have screamed that they were anti-democratic.
There's no winning.
