My most colorful characters were Carol and Dolph. She had 6 kids and a heart of gold. Fed all the neighborhood kids. You had to be careful with the KoolAid cups, because hers was 3/4 vodka. Dolph was a roofer who marinated the BBQ chicken in a 5 gallon bucket of red wine vinegar on the back porch.

There was a lot of drinking. That's the thing I remember. I'm sure my parents and grandparents were half cut 80% of the time, especially after 5pm.

That happened when I was writing my book, which included a lot of people/characters from my childhood. One night, I suddenly realized, "Oh… Mrs. __________ was an alcoholic!" 15-year-old me had no idea.
