Yes, everyone uses their action dice for skill checks... Except if they aren't skilled in what they are trying and use d10s. A 6th level warrior who is a dragon hunter could use their d20 to climb a vine covered wall, and a d14 to remember something about wyverns... At least that's how I'd run it.
