It is sad just how pervasive alcohol is in our society today. Sports, entertainment, music, art. It is all dominated by alcohol and alcohol branding. These adverts all show alcohol as something which is pro-social and all but harmless.

Our policy towards alcohol in the UK is insanity. (I realise that the rules are somewhat different in Scotland, but in England and Wales you can get hold of alcohol without too much difficulty pretty much 24/7.)

Alcohol pervasiveness isn't really the point here though - it was more about someone's idea of masculinity and a bet. Like those men who die after betting they could swallow a pool ball.

Fraternities used to do this as a common pledge initiation and some of the young men died as a result.
