Hey how do you chose which colors go where whenever you're doing an opalescent texture or color scheme? Is it based on value of the hue?

It was a bit of experimenting. I would do the shape in a solid white, then airbrush random colours over each other until they blended in a way that I liked. Some of it is on the same saturation but certain colours popped harder when i intentionally made it bolder. Also references help.
