Our Mexican neighbors (yes, in Switzerland,) have a working antique Singer. It’s the pre-electricity version, with the peddle wheel. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Honestly, I love treadling, especially when I have pent up/nervous energy. One, a Davis, stays in my sewing room at all times. I have at least 6 treadles so the rest are scattered around the house.

It's funny bc it's not really that much work. I mean, yeah if you're sewing a REALLY long seam all at once you'll may feel it a bit in your calves, but sewing is a lot of short runs. It's no more tiring than tapping your foot/shaking your leg when nervous. I did put vintage wired lights on them.

I always start each project by zigzagging ALL edges. Even with my electric machine, I’m tired and over it for the day by the time I’m done. I can’t imagine peddling for all of that.

I’m sewing my things because I’m tired of the shit quality of store-bought versions. If I don’t zigzag the edges, I use French seams, and sometimes, if the fabric is that iffy (like tweed), I do both. I also do not have a serger. I want to get one eventually.

Yeah that's extra work I don't have patience for. 😂 I just join my pieces with a straight stitch, and seams are flat felled if I care about the project (garments), or serged if I don't (dog bed sheets).
