The black background is a perfect choice here. The vibrant colors of their fur and accessories are allowed to play off of each other so beautifully! The angle of the shot, too, is perfect, showing both everything and nothing at the same time.
It's hard to paint the background black, but it was worth the effort to hear that! I thought that the ominous atmosphere could not be conveyed unless the background was dark. It's exciting because you can't see everything.
