If only people would have listened…so many trump voters are so blind to reality & only believe what dear leader tells them. It’s both sad & infuriating.
Yea Magats hate everything and want to make everyone pay. I’m gonna enjoy watching them suffer too 🤷♀️ if you wanted maturity- you’ll not find it here. It’s just been replaced with absolute disgust and rage
Believe me I’m well aware- been fighting like hell since W but a whole of this nation is beyond stupid 🤷♀️ I can only do what I can do. And even if I help elect someone there’s no guarantee they will act right either.
Yep, amazing how many people don't understand some of the most basic parts of the economy. When a company buys something from Mexico, by the time it reaches the US for a tariff to be paid, Mexico already has their money and the US company pays the tariff.
One critique I've heard of Dems that feels very relevant is that Trump has "back of the class energy" and people liked that. Back of the class energy often goes with back of the class knowledge, and Trump clearly has the econ understanding of someone who slept through his classes in the back row.
Simplified is good! Bring back School House Rock! So many kids learned how the government works from that show. Does anyone know how a bill becomes a law any more?
Anyone who doesn't even understand who pays tariffs (Trump incorrectly claimed that the foreign countries do multiple times) should not be imposing them as they have zero chance of understanding the downstream impacts of them.
It's up to people like us who do understand them to explain that Trump is essentially placing a sales tax on everyone despite promising to bring down costs. The personal financial pain will snap some out from the cult, but cult deprogramming takes time and most will accept whatever excuse he gives.
One way to piss people off is to do the exact opposite of the campaign promise they cared the most about. Tariffs on Mexican produce will not reduce grocery bills and tariffs on Canadian oil will not bring down gas prices. He can't hide from the bills.
Simple and effective messaging that tariffs are a Trump Sales Tax and their budgets have been negatively impacted by Trumpflation will be the thing that influence the casual non political voter. The same way they repeatedly spread their lies until people believed them is how we can spread the truth.
Last go around of Trump's trade wars resulted in retaliatory tariffs placed upon our agricultural exports and hurt domestic farmers due to drop in foreign demand of their crops for example.
Also these new proposed Mexican and Canadian tariffs violate Trump's own recognized USMCA trade deal (NAFTA replacement) and screws over US companies who arranged their operations to align to the trade deal terms.
Free trade usually arrives at the best outcome for consumers where product is available at a lower cost than otherwise possible due to lower foreign input costs for labor or materials. Trump's blanket tariffs disrupt free trade while increasing US consumer prices. Tariffs need to be strategic.
Tariffs are best used sparingly in a targeted fashion to address a specific goal like protecting a particular industry by prevent another county from cost dumping their product into our market to undercut us. Tariffs are inflationary and usually result in a retaliatory one imposed on our exports.
