For Women's History Month, may we all remember and summon the courage of Rachel Carson, who wrote Silent Spring to inform the world what DDT was doing to the songbirds, raptors, and by extension, us. While battling cancer, she stood her ground against savage attacks by the chemical industry...

He was so much more than I knew then.

Unafraid of the government shushing her

I had my Very Own Pet, a #GuineaPig, & took Very Good Care of Him. He Loved the Dark Green Outer Leaves on heads
We were down to under a hundred breeding pairs. My memory says 65.
DDT was killing them.
This wasn't popular with farmers or Dow Chemical, but ultimately it paved the way for Richard Nixon's greatest accomplishment; the creation of the EPA.
Had not heard of her, thank you for sharing
Thanks for sharing.
So important to remember why we have environmental protections at a time when corporate polluters are not being held responsible.
And brilliant!
The phrase, "did not age well" comes to mind every time I think of that article.
How small are your hands?
How many oranges do you eat every hour?
What happened to your hair?
Are you a huge failure in business because you do not know how to count to 10?
When did you start having performance issues around intelligent females?
Do you have a bone spur in your brain?
We STILL HAVE NOT DONE ENOUGH
I had. Learning, understanding, and believing in science were highly valued by both sides of my family. Both of my grandmothers, born in 1910-12, had college educations. Iβm grateful to my forebears.
Most of us absolutely did not. Most were just temporarily paused from carrying on the destruction with other chemicals.
Thank you for doing this.
The "free market" must be allowed to consume us all!
Silent Spring was published in 1962, and Carson died in 1964.
I am forever grateful for her heroism for a planet and its creatures who she loved dearly.

The planet is still reeling from all these chemicals we made to kill & destroy w/o thinking

Here's a postcard size screenprint I made a few years ago for an exhibit where the organizers had the theme of "Hero"...
So grateful!
