I applied for my SS benefits 41 days ago. Normally it takes 30 days for a decision. There is already nobody to call. I'm hoping they are just understaffed but I am getting nervous

The SS web site says it normally takes 30 days. I've tried calling the local office where it is being processed and there is no way to talk to someone.

I've read that. I'm so spitting mad at these people. I'm technically savvy and I can navigate web pages and chat boxes just fine but I know I'm in the minority. Not having a person to talk to is just cruel.

They work on first-come, first-served, I think. The good thing is that they will backdate your pay from the day it was written on your application. In other words, you do not lose out. I applied in May from memory and got approved in early November. I was paid back pay from May to November.

No, but they also don't want to admit to cuts in Social Security and that's what they're there for. Go to his local office if you are able. If they don't help tell them you're desperate & maybe going to the local news will help

They cannot do that; as an applicant, you get messages to call them. Every document gives you numbers to call. This applies to Americans internal to US and those overseas like service people who get supported by offshore sites. What a cluster fuck!
