I think they are relatively too tired to focus on this. But yeah, while ship and let ship is it... I think some people end up being grandfathered into a term such as I was; but they don't have enough spoons to focus on things.
The struggle is real. I'm an OG KH shipper for example and oof. The pearl clutching that the new gen fans would be doing if they saw what was deemed normal.
Still, rebuking labels and choosing to be a non participant is two different things. It's like saying "I'm not like other girls" as a gotcha.
Yeah, that's fair. I try to use pages like fanlore to help others learn without putting pressure on. So it's been a struggle trying to fight against misinformation.
Not going to lie, I wish there was a better/easier vetting process before information gets updated onto fan sites/wikis. The process of demonizing groups always starts with misinformation.
Then comes the weaponizing/misuse of buzzwords to assign a moral failing over things that aren't a big deal.
Yeah, if you *really* don't care, then you're a proshipper! The "secret third thing" people might be more accurate to say they don't care about the discourse and "arguing" itself, too tired to take part in it, etc. Which is valid.
Exactly. That bit is soooo incredibly valid. Peeps be freaking crazy on the Internet and campaign to ruin people's lives simply because people don't believe the same. It's terrifying.
Alternatively, a lot of people don't know what proshipper means anymore, which is just makes it easier to make ish.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: don’t put me into a box that I don’t fit in. I think both sides have ridiculous arguments and I’m just here to ship caejose and my ocs lol
I have things that I’m extremely uncomfortable with — I choose to ignore them & not interact with them because I simply do not have the time or energy to do otherwise. I think both proshippers and antis have things they shouldn’t be doing but it’s not in my control, I don’t have time to dwell on it.
totally fair, im sure most people would be the same and ive definitely looked away when people i follow have posted things i personally dont like, but if youre that busy anyway and you find out someone posts morally reprehensible stuff whats the point in still following? you wouldnt be missing much
and to people who also dont have the time or energy to dig further it would look like youre choosing to support and platform the type of content i mentioned. i dont think CSAM, even if its a drawing, is the type of content that should fall under the "uncomfortable but ignorable" category

Being an X-files shipper has been interesting.

Plus it's how I learned about comshipping.
Then comes the weaponizing/misuse of buzzwords to assign a moral failing over things that aren't a big deal.
It's not just proshipping- it's any label.
In either/or situations, suddenly declaring a stance can be the difference between a peaceful time and getting doxxed.
