Suggestion. Change your f-stop to a higher number, lower exposure time and use a flash. The higher f-stop, the larger the depth of field. Picture I took of two bleeding hearts. Exposure time was 1/100 second, f-stop 22, ISO 100.

Thanks! I want the shallow depth of field, it's been my jam for years. I haven't played with flash and diffusers much outside, it'll be fun to try them some time.
Bleeding hearts are a fave of mine. Most of my recent photos were all phonetography. This was 2014, so that'd be on a D500, I think.
