Allegedly he's been trying to stay in football shape just in case we needed him for the stretch run, but I'm with you. For his own sake I hope he never sees the field again. Practice squad is okay but hopefully he wouldn't need to be elevated.

I recently read this article. I rally so hard against Tua playing-every week I check to make sure he’s not paralyzed or worse), it would be insanely hypocritical to want Micah to play. Wish they could sign him up as some kind of coach or mentor, if he wanted that.

I think they should continue to move forward without him. I don’t think it’s a great idea to keep players around just because of their sentimental value to the team when it’s clear they don’t physically offer as much as they used to. He was amazing though and a very important building block.

I don’t think he should displace any current 53 man roster folks at safety. BUT if there was an injury to one of them, there’s really no one else that could step right in scheme wise that I trust more than Hyde.
I’m cool with the practice squad signing. And bring him up as backup for the playoffs

He was always going to comeback as a backup. He and Po should’ve been replaced last year (and sorta were with Rapp and Bishop, but that’s not a very replace-y replacement).

So if Hyde was going to come back, it was as a backup bc it preserves his tread and if starters go down, you don’t have to adjust the scheme for the new guy bc “the new guy” already knows the system inside and out and only needs to sync his chemistry with the rest of the defense.

I think it's a good move. I think part of the reason it hasn't happened yet is Hamlin has been playing good and it would be hard to take away the starting job from him. There's not much point in Hyde coming back if he isn't on the active roster for playoffs

The practice squad is already getting squirrely with guys coming back from IR so I guess it's really a question of who's getting cut to make room for Micah. Having him on the p-squad to get up to speed going into the playoff stretch seems like a good idea in general.

I skeeted the other day that Rapp/Hamlin '24 > Poyer/Hyde '23, and I stand by that. Early in the season, when Hammy was struggling, I wanted us to sign Hyde. Hamlin has turned it around and the unit is playing solid. Don't mess with the chemistry.

Similar to Dorian Williams, Hamlin was forced into a starting role this year. He has grown into the position well, just like Williams has. Young players just need time, opportunities and good mentors to get there.

I don't believe he ever intended on stepping back in full time, or coming in now and wanting to start.
Truly feel he wants to be a part of the team and is fine in a supporting role. Good to know he's there if injuries occur.

I think you nailed it - locker room presence, friend of the team and knowledgeable safety that can help guide the younger guys through playoffs. If he earns a role, great, but we shouldn’t be counting on him. All sounds good to me!

Honestly? Given how McDermott and his staff have handled the secondary as a whole since his hire I think he’s earned enough trust with that group to do what he thinks is best, whether it’s him starting or just being on the psquad.

In 1992, all-time Blue Jay great Dave Stieb was at the end of his rope and the team kept him around though he didn't make the playoff roster.

Hyde may not be quite at the level, but the same applies. If he wants to be around and get a ring, I'd be thrilled to have him.

If he signs, he'll get elevated for his games or eventually wind up fully on the roster; I don't think he's going to sign back on just to be a practice squad member and leadership guy. This team has leadership.

I think if he signs, he eventually joins the active roster at someone's expense.
