i think as a community, we need to actually recognize the power we have collectively, and the harm that it can do when that power is exploited against others over perceived transgressions
how many people have been left hurt, shunned, or traumatized over issues that could have been resolved through a private conversation? many of us are often hypervigilant to those who mean to do us harm, but we need to understand that we too have responsibilty and power
we don't have to be friends with everyone, but i do think we at least owe each other humanity and dignity. without that, what makes us any better than those who wish to do us harm?
Wow, seeing it put into words finally has actually left me sort of speechless. This is exactly what happens and what causes so much pain. I've never been able to put it into coherent words before, the best I managed was that "everybody holds responsibility for the effects of their actions on others"
