Very much this! I’m so burnt out on algorithms dictating small business. I’m planning on updating my sites this year and sending postcards to retailers.
I made basically a rudimentary social media website as a way to teach myself some programming and it turned out to be such a fun project trying to get my friends to post on there and learning how to host it on a VPS rather than doing like a wysiwyg website builder
I think it was a fun challenge to not just think about how do I get this online but also how do I make sure my friends are having fun engaging with what I made
it's all connected now. just keeping the site on private while i fiddle with the look and content
mostly just happy to have this done. i'm not a RETVRN girl about much, but getting back to personal websites makes a lot of sense for plenty of reasons
Something I like to suggest to people -- if you use a static site generator like Hugo, you can host your website for free via github -- good amount of setup but once there it's easy. Lots of guides too.
And if you have a custom domain, you can use that too!
