I think he only did in Mario vs Donkey Kong, which is basically this game's sequel. But I agree that it's kind of wild that they never integrated that into his mainline moveset. They did so with the backflip!!
what mode do y'all put GB games in on NSO? never been real big on cabbage green for replays, the b/w pocket style is easiest on the eyes, but the recolors of pre-GBC games always impressed me as a kid. like how did it KNOW
Super Game Boy was THE place to play this one, IMO. Not just the "HELP! HELP!" sound effect but the absolutely fire remix of the end credits theme at the end
I only ever had a Game Boy Color, so the color mode is actually the most nostalgic one for me! It also hits a sweet spot of giving each game a slightly different look while they all share the same style defined by the limited color palettes. I had never played DK94 before and yet it felt so familiar
trying to think of why i never played this until now, i think it was just because I didn’t have a game boy until the pocket and by then DK was something very different and i didn’t have time for anything without cutting edge silicon graphics and funky kong
The year I BEGGED my entire family for a Game Boy Pocket my mom bought me this game and it immediately became, and remains, my all-time favorite platformer
I play in b&w typically. I feel the color sometimes messes up the intended tones of the sprite work, making it look a lot brighter. I wish they implemented an ability to change the pallete for each game, which I think you could do on both GBC and GBA by holding a button combo while the game boots.
