Yeah, it'll take a long time to regain, if we can. It'll have to be that Trump's defeated, then Republicans act normal for at least 10 years.

And I don't see that happening. Why would Republicans begin to act normally again? The things that have driven them to this insanity will not be going

Might need to go back another 4 years to when Barry Goldwater kicked off the current flavor of the #GOP. I think the continuum of the current arc connects to him. Might make the case it stretches back to 1912 with the rejection of TR

They did do a slow turn for quite a while. I pegged it at the Southern Strategy because that's when they realized that culture wars would distract from their unpopular policies and effectively give them minority rule

It isn't the culture wars IMO. Minority Rule is enabled by the weaponization of the filibuster. And LOTS of gerrymandering.
