Build a new stadium in it and knock current stadium down and replace with a new park with an agreement that the club maintain it. That's madness. Why would you waste money levelling one park only to build another right next door? And that's to say nothing of the envrionmental impact of destroying a 150+ year old park. Football isn't the most important thing in the world, you know.

Whether they will or not remains to be seen. The answer as to whether they should or not is quite clear - they shouldn't. Worth remembering that billion pound developments primarily benefit billionaires, not anyone or any place that could be described as "deprived".

Deprived? Hardly. It's a bustling & lively town to be proud of. A deprived place is one where residents have nowhere to go, no services, no public space, austerity. They are going ahead with the development come what may so the council just needs to tell them to do it at another site. Simple.

Yeah sad state of most of our publicly owned spaces post-austerity and letting it run down can be seen as part of the council's long term strategy. A new park is one idea but would take decades to mature. All those amazing Victorian trees at St. Leazes.. Town Moor sounds like a better idea to me

I was there a while back. People were fishing on the lake, loads of wildlife around it, loads of families about people playing basketball and tennis, it's wrong to paint a narrative of it being run down, yes it needs work but certainly shouldn't be built over
