1/3 Based on ERA5 soundings near the start points and start times of 48,212 tornadoes from 1979-2022, we found larger amplitude kinematic quantities were necessary for long-track tornadoes (LTTs; pathlength PL ≥ 30 mi), as is the case for long-lived supercells (i.e. supports faster moving storms)
[2/3] and that thermodynamic quantities had almost no discrimination capability for PL. In particular, there were lower thresholds for kinematic quantities beyond which almost no LTTs were reported. Some of the highest correlations with PL were found with SRH, BWD and SR surface winds at z < 2km
