The Strand owner Nancy Bass-Wyden is reportedly worth more than $50 million and received $2.7 million in COVID loans. The Strand union said they are asking for $.50 raises.

The Strand is a pretend indie that gets all kinds of perks from publishers that other members of the ABA never get a shot at (I.e. the only indie who can sell ARCs). Solidarity w/the workers.
That was supposed to be the point, but there was never any system to make sure that the businesses didn't just pocket all the money to give out as bonuses to executives while firing employees to "save money."
Which, having thought about it for a day. The purpose of a system is what it does. They deliberately didn't put in any barriers against it because they just wanted to enrich the rich, even if it would have been better for the country if all the money in PPP loans was just added to the stimmy checks.
