Politics on all fronts is broken because it’s mostly filled with the extremists, the desperate, the lonely, and the outliers.

It’s not representative, because the people it should represent aren’t actually involved.

Yeah but we lonely outliers can often see more clearly from the outside. We're a bit uncomfortable so we're not complacent. We have time to think and read. We're part of the answer and can support more extrovert leaders.

Oh yeah; we outliers are essential to these parties, we’re mostly carrying them right now…
At present, the problem is a lack of other people to support, so we do EVERYTHING - and that’s just not sustainable.

And yeah, sometimes it’s boring, and sometimes it feels like it’s overly bureaucratic, and sometimes you run into people with large egos who are very annoying.

this is pretty light-on analysis. I can count on one hand the people I know who have swapped parties and been trusted enough to take active leadership roles in their new party. Fence-jumpers are distrusted. And swapping back to one you’ve left is usually impossible.

Leadership roles aren’t necessarily required here. If people are jumping around between leadership roles then there are potentially other issues - this is about participation. People can swap around and still participate and contribute without being in leadership.

You don’t have to commit to one party exclusively, or always stay in one place.
Toxic cultures exist in all parts of society, and politics is no different. Some places can be fixed by new people, some can’t. So you move on if you can’t vibe with a place.
