It’s not representative, because the people it should represent aren’t actually involved.
Regular people joining parties is essential to healthy politics 🧵
At present, the problem is a lack of other people to support, so we do EVERYTHING - and that’s just not sustainable.
And this is normally when people who try to get involved instead disengage 🧵
If a party you join is annoying or tiresome, don’t just withdraw - switch to another!
The only way to both preserve our democracy and survive the challenges of today is for people to get involved and *stay* involved 🧵
Toxic cultures exist in all parts of society, and politics is no different. Some places can be fixed by new people, some can’t. So you move on if you can’t vibe with a place.
But move ON, not move out 🧵
It’s the only way we’re all getting out of this together.
