My guess would be they start utilizing some of the D gates. Hawaiian currently uses two of them and there are open gates there when no international arrivals.
Do they need to use the D gates when they have access to all (?) the B and C gates? Until the new terminal opened, it seemed like the biggest bottleneck at the airport was the ticketing area, which had been getting uncomfortably crowded.
I think they’re pretty close to capacity. If they start aggressively banking flights they’ve hinted at, I think they will be out of gates. Frontier has 3 I think and American gets 3 as well. They could get Frontier to move maybe?
I believe Frontier uses common use gates. If so, the port can move them at any time. Neither American nor Frontier use their gates full time so they are available at other times of the day. Also, eventually C1, C3, C4, C5 and B1 will be back in service. Alaska has plenty of room.
Looking at the plans I have for the airport, C1 and B1 are gone forever. C4 should be back in use soon, with no more major construction happening near that. C3 and C5 I assume come back after the temporary walkways go away in 2026.
I thought B1 is going where the current temporary walkway entrance is. Not sure about C1 but there will be several gates under/around the Alaska lounge area.
They (Alaska) are already using D gates apparently. Someone in my replies stated their flight left from D yesterday and I spotted two AS tails at D this morning.
It was tough before the connector came back because folks would have to exit BC and re-clear DE security 👎 hated to be the volunteer that had to break that news lol
I would think Frontier would move for a price. But possibly most important here is that they want to make sure nobody else can move in. So I imagine wherever they can get gates and take away from anyone else's potential expansion plans, they'll call it a win.
