The author writes contemporary romance, but this series (starts with Fourth Wing) is Romantasy or even fantasy with a heavy dose of romance.

It’s one of those books that if it was written by a man it would be listed as fantasy, but because it has a love interest and a sex scene and written by a woman it’s listed as a romance.
