Always loved them cuz of the Halloween aesthetic but I starter to actually learn about them (starting with the megas, eventually the micros) and I fell so in love with them and all their little batty quirks

Good question! It felt near-random; choosing from a small list for a Delver’s Guide playtest, and their bonuses looked neat - bag of holding wings please? Later I was vindicated by the cute fluff and incredible physiology to fly as a mammal and not crash into everything (each other included!)

There was also the misunderstood theme - in Beast World, we are fantasy space aliens with all the immigrant hooks that implies, and irl we’re lumped in with the forces of darkness despite being too cute and helpful for that, just for dark fur and dark caves and nocturnal behavior.

They're super important to ecosystems, uber underappreciated for it; they got super diverse diets from insects, blood, or frogs to nectar or fruit - something for anyone to appreciate!
They got big ears, wings, and their toes are super neat too, resting while latched

When I developed heavy anxiety and depression, I didn't want my old sona (fox/raccoon mix) to be afflicted with them as well. I thought it'd be nice to be something with some sort of defense mechanism. Flight seemed like the best option.

If I were to be honest, I don't know. I just selected the word "bat" to replace the word "boy" in my old username (back before I was a woman lol) for reasons I'd rather not go into, but it just... stuck. And I only realized I was a fur back in August.
