The End of #MrDeepfakes? Seems that for now, this notorious website - responsible for the exponential rise in deepfake sexual abuse - has shut itself down. About time. It's responsible for the abuse of thousands.

While welcome, the damage has been done. At its height, around 17 million were visiting it each *month* spawning communities trading and sharing videos and tips, normalising and legitimising this abuse.

While a 3rd party provider may have pulled the plug, MrDeepfakes achieved it's status and high views thanks to Google and Bing returning it at the top of searchers. Only belatedly, did they change their algorithms: too little, too late.
😡 But pressure can make a difference
This has happened thanks to the many women and girls who have spoken out against deepfake abuse, sharing personal trauma and demanding change. We now need to continue to disrupt this abusive ecosystem
