there's precious few, officially commissioned pieces of art depicting us presidents that i would consider "good" and unfortunately most of those are just jfk.

With a bit of looking, there are a couple articles that maybe, almost suggest that he had help from assistants in his studio. I suspect the suggestions are in an effort to discredit the artist.
Kehinde might be a creep, but the man knows how to paint.

He was fascinated by photorealism and pixels and such and recreating the effect at a large scale. 1/2
Anyway. Nobody has to like anything (and personally I don’t think it’s a great portrait) but Chuck Close was doing his very particular thing long before Photoshop. 2/2
