Instead of simply reporting the answer to a question perhaps it would be better to analyze what the politician is saying. If they're not answering a question say it. Right wing politicians have been playing this game for years and journalist still haven't figured it out.

I remember Anna Maria Tremonti asking politicians the same question 3 or 4 times & getting the same non-answer. And then letting it sit for a second. Had faith that her listeners would understand that pushing more wasn't going to get an answer & that they were intentionally not answering the Q

A suggestion for better news … scrum questions need to be routinely miked. The public could then see for themselves if 1) politicians aren’t answering the questions and 2) whether or not the journos are pushing back. (Who might do that chore? A pool person, maybe, rotated among different news orgs)
