i'm actually not that cynical about that event - there were some meaningful changes in their newsroom following that effort, and for years after they noticeably foregrounded Māori perspectives far more than any other mainstream news channel. But it's all gone to shit under Tracy Watkins.

because i'm moved to elaborate: the "git gud" folks are not without point. The Greens could avoid some of this stuff by running a sharper eye over their house.

But the reactions they get are for *norm violations* and part of why they exist is to be a home for those who see how the stultifying conservative norms of pols-as-done are inhuman, and amplifying them warps society to disenfranchise those who do not fit in the centre of the identity venn diagram.

Part of why the Greens exist is to break these norms, and (as the "git gud" folks always concede) the norms they break are not fundamental wrongs. They haven't even done anything terribly wrong.

And if the Greens 'sort it out', what is conceded by such a move? Consider how this call is a demand that they surrender in advance, and bow to social norms enforced cruelly and speciously by the worst people, and what costs will accrue the more caution is exercised? Where does the caution end?

To shake your head at the Greens is to downplay the extent to which there is an organised operation to seek out and make hay of these supposed transgressions, and one which is eagerly served up on every media channel, and which is further endorsed by Labour leader after Labour leader.
