On principle I would agree but when the algorithm is against you, the fight is uneven.

Following Zuckerberg's decision, I left a message on FB and Insta to tell my friends that I'd moved here.

A few days later, I verbally asked a few of them if they had seen my post.

This is spot-on. Just want to add that the most important thing to them is the metrics. Daily Active Users (DAU). They need DAU to bring in advertisers, keep investors happy (& bring in new ones), etc. Just logging in = DAU. (ALL platforms rely on this as their most fundamental $ draw.)

I respectfully disagree with this. Any time, in any capacity, spent on those apps gives those in charge time and attention and information. It also tells those who view your content that they should stay in that space as well. But while I disagree I know we’re all navigating this the best we can.

You are free to do as you please, but also understand these platforms only survive because they sell your attention to advertisers. If you deny the platforms your time and engagement, the advertisers go away and so does the revenue stream that allows them to keep spreading hate.

You could also look at it as performing for the enemy. Everything you do on these other apps is content that can be gathered and used for AI and political analysis and monetization. So really I think letting go of these apps is more of a positive act of choosing better spaces.

There's no other way for me to communicate with Latino creators and readers (and even family and friends) than through the apps. We get very little coverage in traditional media for Latino lit. It would mean *less* coverage and community building if everyone disappeared.
