A commenter added later in the thread that it's true that what we say is protected by the first amendment in that the government can't come at you for what you say. But the original poster is also right that the platforms can allow or promote whatever they will.

Last night @60minutes.bsky.social opened an otherwise superb segment on Germany’s approach to online hate speech by saying “in the U.S., most of what’s said on online [social media] platforms is protected by the First Amendment.”
