Hammer is a perfect starter weapon. It is very simple, but also not nearly as slow as something like Greatsword or Lance which are also very simple. It can also provide a lot of confidence and satisfaction with it's role of KOing monsters by bonking their face.

Honestly kind of a toss-up. If you don't know what you're doing, SnS is hard to get high damage out of, but that autoguard bonus they usually give you is huge. Gotta be either SnS, Hammer, or Dual Blades for a beginner.

Lance could be up there, it's what I started with along with Charge Blade in 4U. Being able to guard, attack with your guard up, counter attack and most of your combos are just triple poke.

The most complex thing you have is the charge jump stab.

Twin Blades is unmatched imo. For new players that wanna go fast. I don't think ANY weapon is the true noob weapon, bc it depends on how someone likes to fight.

SnS is a good starter simply because it's forgiving, and you can use items without sheathing. It's what I used to start (I also find it amusing that both SnS and CB are both South Paws).

Rise got me to main HH, because I'm bad at the game but can still help others with the power of song

Hammer and dual blades are probably the easiest weapons to jump on and just start killing monsters. They don't gel with me personally though, not as much with other weapons like Rise/Sunbreak Hunting Horn or World's Charge Blade.

Since the Charge Blade was introduced, it has been my go-to that I can intuitively understand. Before that, Lance: 3 pokes, defend. Maybe 2 pokes during enraged. I'm okay with prolonged hunts with this style.

I've always thought sns was an odd choice as a first weapon. Great Sword is better imo. You have to learn patterns, you can shield if needed, and 90% of the gameplan is just charge and swing. Super simple

Yeah, learning Greatsword back in MH3 is what got me to finally click with the game.

Not having every other hit bounce off the target's hide, and needing to actually plan my swings helped me click, until I could fall in love with Switch Axe. :P

SnS is way more complex now, but I still think that being able to use items without sheathing, and the base level combo still make it pretty newbie friendly. I think hammer is ALSO noob friendly, but asking a new friendly to go to the front of the monster instead of the back can be daunting.

Bow is also highly likely to be one of the easier on ramps in Wilds as well, with the homing arrows and all. Excelling with it is a challenge, but what weapons aren't? Being able to minimally contribute will be a lower bar, especially in low rank as new people are learning.

I would have dropped MHWorld if not for the Lance. I was not good at action games back then, so it was nice to have access to a play style that did not rely on dodging attacks.

Yeah, this is probably why they now start you with LS as of Rise. Hammer is also pretty good for beginners but going for headshots isn't necessarily a playstyle that everyone might vibe with right from the get-go.

Hammer certainly feels like a much easier starter weapon! It's got some complexity but not much and you can still be successful by just bonking the head and doing a Big Bang when the monster is down, plus bigger damage numbers meaning uptime isn't as punished.
