We need alternatives being fully operational before we ditch anything. But we do need such alternatives.
Remember many of us in Europe have friends and family on both sides of the Atlantic.

EU + Canada ✅
EU + USA ❌
This "we don't have an alternative" has exactly been the counterargument against the sovereignists (France) who argued for unified sovereign EU defence and what stopped any progress. France has been proven right in retrospect.
