Lord of the Rings Online maybe the exception that proves the rule. Can't even imagine it. Not a game you hear from these days but you can bet you'd hear from it if they put in a motorcycle lol

the warcraft universe had tanks and helicopters long before world of warcraft was even a thought in anyone's head.

I don't really remember anyone saying motorcycles were out of place there, because they genuinely aren't.

Yep! That jump in tech in-game from Orcs & Humans to Tides of Darkness was pretty impressive. Going from a, more or less, Warhammer clone to its own more unique thing was definitely a part of that process of injecting technology and flavor. Reign of Chaos is where the identity solidified for me.
