The government’s ongoing refusal to engage with reality in the criminal justice system, while trotting out the same tabloid-pleasing headlines as its predecessors, is having catastrophic effects, day after day.

chill guys, they're 6 months in to a 5 year term.
I wondered what your thoughts on the matter were.
(It sounded reasonable, especially for defendents on remand)
But the Crown courts haven't been - which is expected.
But numerous cases could fall to either Magistrates OR Crown.
A court with a high court judge and 2 lay Magistrates was his suggestion
I am naturally inclined to bristle at that (and to doubt Chalk), but his proposal did offer a mechanism, at least.

I also wonder if Chalk's proposal is akin to the PA issue in medicine.
However
No more lawyers to deal with the cases, no more Judges to hear cases, no more funding for the courts
Equals 🟰 an ever increasing backlog
Isn’t this what Timpson is undertaking and producing a plan for? I simply don’t understand why they wouldn’t be looking at courts etc
