I usually like to keep my messages open because I enjoy connecting with people, but lately, it’s been overwhelming. It feels like every other account is some kind of spam, and the number of OF bots is out of control. Hopefully, Bluesky steps up their spam detection soon. - ThreadSky

Yeah I've been getting too many romance DMs that very obviously don't read my profile and tell me I seem like a lovely person or other bs.

I post mainly about covid and long covid. It's not pretty person stuff.

Verified accounts have a domain name like mine. That means a real person runs the account/page. Hope this helps.

I think the fact that when you block an account the fact that it doesn't subtract from your follower count needs to change too... Or are BlueSky trying to inflate the numbers to look good?

I agree ,coming from Twitter where I was blocking every day I was surprised to find that many of my initial followers were bogus/, predators.

Yeah, I had nearly 3000 followers on Twitter but my followers list really needed a clear-out.At least on here I can mainly start afresh.

I managed to reach 5,700 followers on Twitter. I was at 5,000 following with 2,500 followers when I was forced to find 2,000 plus accounts that had not followed back and delete them .I was at 4,600 followers and still being restricted.
I've seen accts with 2,000 followers with 6,000 following.

Yeah, i feel you. The most obvious sign is when the account gets deleted in a day or two because it's nefarious. I was surprised to find a helluva a lot of phishing scams, too. Lots of ppl are trying to commit mobile check fraud.

I am torn about the charity accounts.
Could there be that many Gazan's WITH social media- but not food, water or electricity?

How are they online without electricity? Do they pay for internet service?

Even if 100% are legit, how to help hundreds of desperate, starving people?

It is overwhelming.

People aren’t picky about who follows them and just automatically follow back without checking a profile. I don’t do that. I’m starting to see a pattern with these weird accounts that want to follow or contact me. If it continues I’ll have to unfollow a couple accounts.

I put a thing about no DMs in my bio.

That is my excuse to block every such message from someone I don't already know.

They generally come in with a greeting just moments after a follow-back that I haven't vetted adequately.

You have to be vigilante yourself. Bluesky could not possibly catch all bots coming in. Do not be lazy and click bio and scroll down. You can figure out real from bot
