I get why a lot of people don't like Discovery. The last season in particular felt like it was way too far up its own ass. But when I read that it "failed" I just don't see it. It was well received by critics and had enough viewership that Paramount made 5 (very expensive) seasons and 2 spin-offs.
I think it failed in that it did little to passionately reignite Star Trek for the old fans or usher the franchise strongly into a new era. At this point Star Trek feels lost. It doesn’t know what it wants to be or do.
