This is a crock of shit; the Navy curries favor with politicians and ignores the proud histories of former carriers: Saratoga, Lexington, Wasp, Hornet, Ranger, Essex, Midway, Philippine Sea, Leyte Gulf, America, Franklin, United States, Kitty Hawk, and more. Those proud names get lesser ships.
USS Doris Miller, named after an enlisted sailor, played by Cuba Gooding Jr. in the 2001 movie "Pearl Harbor." I designed a shirt to honor Dorey Miller, misspelled it as Dory. He was awarded the Navy Cross for his heroic actions on December 7th, 1941. See Doris Miller Memorial/Park, Waco, Texas
I consider Dory to be a minor error, and I won't be throwing away six $60 shirts over a minor error. I considered using his actual given name of Doris, but too many without knowledge of Dorey Miller might assume it to be a woman's name. He was lost at sea in 1943 when his ship was sunk.
