1/10 This thread is about gun safety, not 2A rights or gun control. No matter how you feel or what you believe about the proliferation of firearms in the USA, the fact of the matter is that we have more guns than people here.

2/10 If you live in the USA for very long, even if you're not a gun owner, you may encounter a gun. Even if you're disgusted by guns and you just want to safely remove a gun from your environment one day, you should know these basic safety rules.
4/10 RULE 2. Be aware of the composition of your target and what's behind it.
Know what you're shooting at. Have you positively identified your target? Do you know what's behind it, and is it something you are also willing to destroy?
5/10 RULE 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire.
A modern firearm in good condition should not fire unless someone activates the trigger. Keep your finger off the trigger until you've got the weapon pointed at your positively identified target, and you're ready to fire.
"I didn't think it was loaded" are NOT words you ever want to find yourself sobbing. If you ONLY follow the rules when you "know" the gun is loaded, you're going to make a mistake while handling a loaded firearm one day.
7/10 In addition to the gun safety rules above, there are some other things you need to know to keep you and the people you are trying to protect safer if you are a new gun owner or plan to become one.

This is self explanatory, I should hope. Don't point the muzzle of a gun at anything you wouldn't be okay seeing destroyed.
