Every year Broadband providers put their prices up by between 3.9% and 5% on the basis that they are 'allowed' an increase with some excuses about better service, covering inflation blah, blah, blah. What a con.

I dislike companies like that. My aging parents got fooled by Xfinity all the time. When I found out after my dad died, my mom was stuck paying $140 a month for their service, I switched her to a different company for $50 a month. Companies that charge more than that to the elderly should be fined.
...in many cases that's PLUS the inflation rate, so...
Inflation = 2.5%, PLUS 5% contracted increase = 7.5% increase in cost.
Add in the impact of compound interest - 5% increase every year for 5 years...a 27% increase in cost, for what?
I specifically chose providers that don't do this trick.

I saved >50% by moving.
Why don't the providers offer competitive prices without the threat of leaving? Oh I know, because they know most people don't/daren't move.

Both offered a 1 month contract, which I used to test the quality & then I moved to a 2 year contract with no in contract price rises after the test.
For us - £20/m on mobile (same network) , £35/m on broadband (plus it's 1Gb not 200Mb).
The providers abuse your loyalty.
If you're paying 20% income tax that is equal to nearly £830 pay rise.
For doing very little.
