Haven't had television in 15 years and I'm not even tempted. You can tell who it's aimed at by the commercials. I'll turn it on when I'm in a hotel and I turn it off within 10 minutes.
It’s a good article, but it’s missing a key component: the people making the decisions in the C-Suite don’t know how to make ANY TV show, let alone a good one. They’re Wall Street guys w/ abacuses & now Tech Bros, who want to “disrupt,” but have no idea what to replace it with. The system is broken.
And it was done by design. If you have creative people in the C-Suite, then Zaslav never makes high 6 figures a year, because he’s devoid of any & all talent. There’s no upside for him to “fix” TV.
It certainly doesn't feel like there's more scripted stuff than ever before. Much of it ends up out there without ever hearing about it and just seeing a poster for something on a streaming site often doesn't interest me.
The fewer episode count seasons have been something I've hated as a viewer.
Star Trek Discovery was a GREAT example of... less is not better. I watched all of Discovery's 5 seasons I STILL can't name the bridge crew because they never got episodes flushing them out.
We'd have never gotten some of TNG's best episodes in this format: Inner Light, Lower Decks etc
