Now it may be joining the EU proper.
Which suggests that beyond those four freedoms, there is a benefit to being a member.

It would mean Iceland agreeing to adopt the euro when the Icelandic government deems the economic situation to be right, and the EC agreeing that the Icelandic government has the right to decide that the economic situation is never right.
Same as Poland.
