Great essay. I'd agree with the interpretation. The movie is not bad (well one should like planes).

But when I watched it in cinema, the main actor didn't really convince me that Mav _really_ feels melancholy, or sadness about Iceman, or worry for the younger pilots. It felt artificial somehow.
