I've come to the realization that most people today do not understand even the frameworks for the complex systems they interact with, have no mechanisms to decompose those systems in their minds and substitute simplistic conspiracies and magical thinking.

I remember calling out a friend on FB once for posting some BS shaming a woman for what he saw her buying with SNAP at a gas station. But I also knew he was actively abusing unemployment (fraud) at that exact time 😒

I live in a town where literally 100% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch and 75% of residents are on entitlements like SNAP and Medicaid, yet they regularly huff about milking the system. It was a great stunt fooling them into believing there’s an enemy within.

No...no there isn't. They've been told their entire lives that everything bad in the world is because of certain undesirables (racial minorities, gays, transgenders, Muslims, Jews, the disabled, liberals, etc.). They will reject the evidence in front of their eyes, ears, and noses.
