Tips for those seeking more community engagement:

Instead of expecting people to come to you, be proactive & engage with others on THEIR posts. Easier to be discovered & discover kindred spirits that way. Tweak settings > home feed prefs to make sure you're seeing replies.

Don't just broadcast.

Before following anyone on Bluesky, take the time to fill out your PROFILE. Add a clickable LINK (you can just paste the URL into your profile bio) where people can find out more about you.

Make an intro post, ideally with an image. Ideally not just "buy my stuff."

If your Home feed seems too quiet or too full of Replies, you can tweak in Settings > Home Feed Prefs. https://bsky.app/settings/home-feed

Default is only showing replies that have at least 2 Likes.

Check this regularly, since Bluesky updates can reset to default settings.

Some are using "skeet" or "skeeting" instead of post/posting on Bluesky. Be aware that both have other meanings as slang terms.

One is a pejorative epithet in Nfld & Labrador English. The other is even less family-friendly (feel free to look it up).

I just use post/posting.

When posting images, try to add ALT text. It not only helps screen-reading tools describe images to visually impaired readers, it's useful for custom feeds that incl ALT text search.

To remind myself, I turned on "require ALT text" in settings. I keep a copy/paste ALT text library for freq images.

Another tip: Do not hijack threads to push/promote direct competitors to an app or service someone is recommending (along w/ alternate funding links), unless you know the author of the thread doesn't mind. I have learned my lesson from xTwitter and do not hesitate to use Mute/Block here on Bluesky.
