I disagree with the sentiment. A ton of bike paths suffer from Root Heave, but that is because their maintenance is rarely a priority for governments. A minimal effort to repair, or prevent this with better designs in the first place could alleviate it.

That’s how the Pennsylvania side of the C&O Canal trail going from Pittsburgh to DC is and I agree it’s way better for far flung places because it seems to maintain better than asphalt
